Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Southern Alps in a rural Canterbury village, Home Away from Home was designed as a secondary residence for an active family who desired an escape from urban life.

The design emphasises a profound connection with the stunning natural surroundings. The soaring, asymmetrical roof planes mirror the rugged mountain slopes and shingle screeds, creating a harmonious interplay between the built environment and the landscape. This integration of form and nature was fundamental to the design, ensuring that the dwelling not only complements but also enhances its remarkable setting.

A colaborative design by Craig South and Cymon Allfrey (of Allfrey + South).
