Set against the mountainous landscape of the Southern Alps in a rural Canterbury village, Home Away from Home was designed as a secondary dwelling for an active family who desired an escape from their city home.

Connection with the impressive environment through architectural form was the basis of the design rationale; soaring roof planes, asymmetrical and abrupt, extenuating the mountain slopes and shingle screeds in the background.
