Studio Fitout | Christchurch Architects’ Workspace

Project Overview

This studio fitout on Victoria Street, Christchurch, transforms an existing building into a workspace that inspires creativity and reflects the design philosophy behind every project. Embracing the Streamline Moderne character of the building, the interior highlights its original curves and architectural features while creating a functional, uplifting environment.

Design Approach

The layout balances collaborative and private spaces, with bespoke elements that celebrate both form and function. A sculptural curved fin wall displays lush greenery and awards, while a circular breakout space defined by a bold green blockout encourages interaction and reflection. Wallpaper by James Dunlop and carefully considered details complement the building’s heritage features, reinforcing a cohesive design narrative.

Light, Space & Connection

The interior uses curves, openness, and natural light to foster a sense of flow and wellbeing throughout the studio. Spaces are arranged to encourage movement, collaboration, and moments of pause, creating an environment that supports both productivity and inspiration.

Materials & Detailing

The design combines classic Streamline Moderne elements with contemporary finishes. Sculptural forms, tactile materials, and greenery create a workspace that feels timeless yet modern, expressive yet functional.

The Result

The studio fitout delivers a workspace that is both beautiful and functional, reflecting a philosophy of design that inspires and uplifts. Thoughtful detailing, materiality, and heritage celebration make it a memorable and energising environment for all who work there.
