Through a considered renovation, this home is revitalised to meet modern expectations while celebrating its original architectural character. The project honours its timber heritage while enhancing comfort, functionality, and sustainability for contemporary living.

  • The design carefully balances preservation and enhancement, introducing a new living wing and undercover outdoor living area. These additions expand the home’s capacity while strengthening its connection to the surrounding landscape and supporting year-round use.

  • The new living wing is oriented to maximise natural light and capture expansive views. Large openings enhance daylight penetration, creating bright, open spaces that shift throughout the day and strengthen the relationship with the outdoors.

  • Existing timber construction provides a naturally warm and grounded interior character. Enhanced spatial flow, relaxed living areas, and the integration of solar panels with battery storage support comfort, efficiency, and ease of everyday living.

  • Original timber construction is carefully retained and complemented by new materials that respect the home’s heritage. Detailing is refined and understated, ensuring the addition integrates seamlessly while clearly distinguishing old from new.

  • The result is a thoughtfully renewed home that preserves its architectural integrity while embracing contemporary living. New living spaces and improved functionality create a balanced outcome, combining heritage character with modern comfort and performance.

  • Craig and his team have been amazing.  Initially we were sceptical about the cost of employing an architect, when we already knew what we wanted to do.  However, we are so glad that we did.

South Architects’ team have added so much to the build in terms of giving us a simple, but clever building with some great design features that we would never have thought of.  Our budget was very limited, but the outcome has the features of an architect designed home that suits our daily life, aesthetic and environmental principles and provides the ‘wow factor’.  The design really does prove that you don’t have to have a Grand Design, a mansion or a huge budget to benefit from professional input.  It has proved to be a real investment.
